Biography
Maria Christina of Austria was born on November 22, 1763, at Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna. She was an Austrian archduchess and a princess of Hungary and Bohemia. Her parents were Archduke Joseph, who later ruled as Holy Roman Emperor Joseph II, and Isabella of Parma.
Maria Christina died just two hours after her birth. Her death occurred on the same day, leaving her only a very short life. Her mother also did not survive the birth for long: Isabella of Parma died five days later from smallpox. The birth therefore had profound consequences for the family and was overshadowed by a double loss.
Maria Christina was buried in the Capuchin Church in Vienna, in the Imperial Crypt. There she found her final resting place among members of the Habsburg family.
