Biography
Andrea Maria von Habsburg-Lothringen was born on May 30, 1953, in Würzburg, Bavaria. She is the first child of the Austrian Archduke Otto von Habsburg-Lothringen and his wife, Regina, Princess of Saxe-Meiningen. As Archduchess of Austria and hereditary Countess of Neipperg, she belongs to the Habsburg-Lorraine family. Her grandfather was Charles I, the last emperor of Austria. Although her family’s historical origins shaped her social background, Andrea does not officially use the traditional Habsburg noble titles, as their use is legally prohibited in Austria and Hungary.
Andrea spent her childhood in exile. She grew up in her family’s home, Villa Austria in Pöcking, Bavaria. Her circumstances were connected with the political and legal situation of the former Austrian ruling family, which no longer governed Austria after the end of the monarchy.
On July 9, 1977, Andrea married Karl Eugen, the hereditary Count of Neipperg, in Pöcking. He was born on October 20, 1951, in Schwaigern, and is the son of Josef, Count of Neipperg, and Maria von Ledebur-Wicheln. The County of Neipperg was centered on Schwaigern. In 1766, it became an Imperial Estate of the Holy Roman Empire, and in 1806 it was mediatized to the Kingdom of Württemberg. Through her marriage, Andrea became part of the Neipperg family and bears the name Andrea von Habsburg-Lothringen, Countess of Neipperg.
The couple had several children. Their eldest son, Philipp von Neipperg, was born on September 6, 1978, in Heilbronn. On April 26, 2008, he married Paula Wolff in Salzburg. She was born on July 19, 1981, also in Salzburg. The couple have four children: Johanna, born on May 13, 2009, in Munich; Stephan Benedikt, born on October 5, 2010; Emanuel, born in 2014; and Alexandra, born in 2015.
Their second son, Benedikt von Neipperg, was born on April 11, 1980, in Heilbronn. Their third son, Dominik, was born on July 27, 1981, in Warendorf. On August 4, 2012, he married Princess Marie-Anna of Salm-Salm in Wallhausen. She was born on February 22, 1986, in Kitzingen, and is the daughter of Prince Michael of Salm-Salm and Countess Philippa Emma zu Castell-Castell. Dominik and Marie-Anna have two daughters: Florentina, born on March 4, 2015, in Munich, and Xenia, also born in Munich in 2016. Valentin, born in 2020, and Felia, born in 2023, are also named as children of the family.
Andrea’s daughter Maria Hemma von Neipperg was born on October 11, 1983, in Oelde. On May 30, 2012, she married Roman Keno Specht in Schwaigern. He was born on December 4, 1980, in Oldenburg. The couple have three daughters: Annunziata, born in 2013; Olympia, born in 2016; and Beatrice, born in 2017.
The younger daughter, Katharina von Neipperg, was born on April 3, 1986, in Rheda-Wiedenbrück. On August 30, 2012, she married Prince Wenzel von Lobkowicz in Schwaigern. He was born on December 4, 1986, in Munich, and is the son of Prince Johannes von Lobkowicz and Countess Johanna Bathildes zu Castell-Castell. Katharina and Wenzel have two sons: Valérian, born in 2014, and Camillo, born in 2016.
Andrea is also listed as a Dame of the Order of the Starry Cross within the House of Habsburg. Her life thus combines the family’s historical connection to the Austrian imperial family with her own role as a wife, mother, and member of the House of Neipperg.
